U-STEW FOR DOGS

Adapted from Know Better Pet Food Company’s site: U-Stew for Dogs

U-Stew is a premix for preparing a cooked homemade dog food.  It’s made with 100% human grade ingredients and is suitable for all life stages.  No grains of any kind are used. Just add water and cooked meat.

Preparing a balanced home-cooked meal for dogs can be a challenge. It requires time, motivation and a thorough understanding of the nutritional requirements. These requirements must factor in the six main aspects of the essential nutrient profile, which are: water, carbohydrates, proteins, fats, minerals and vitamins. If these essential nutrients are not present in the dog’s meal plan, and if they are not in balance, less-than-optimal health can result.

There is considerable debate regarding raw vs. cooked dog food. Over the past several years of listening to our customers’ concerns and questions, we have concluded that we must make a product that satisfies the customers who are simply not comfortable with feeding raw meat. The result is a formulation that enhances the cooked meat to such an extent that it replaces the nutritional deficit (caused by cooking) with sufficient supplementation. We have added digestive enzymes for stomach and intestinal health; taurine for enhancing the natural levels already found in the meat and essential fatty acids from fish.

U-Stew was developed because we believe that feeding a home-prepared diet to our canine companions is the most nutritious and most palatable choice we can make. The caregiver simply has more control over the dietary needs of their companion animal.

U-Stew can be used as supplemental to almost any kind of meat, including poultry, beef, pork, wild game, or the more exotic meats (excluding organ meats).

Preparation of U-Stew

U-Stew is designed to be combined with water, cooked meat, and optional vegetables in the amounts and proportions stated in our literature. It is not a food for dogs on its own nor meant to be a sprinkle-on vitamin supplement. No additional supplementation is necessary when feeding this meat based diet. All other dog foods should be removed from the dog’s meal plan, including dry food.

Preparation for a 1.36kg  batch of food is simple and only requires combination of:

•  ½ cup U-Stew
•  1 ½* cups water
•  2lb. (900g) meat – your choice(ground or chopped).
•  ½lb. (225g) vegetables, chopped and steamed (vegetables are optional).

For convenience, make larger batches and freeze.

(* Add more water if desired – especially when preparing the food using ground meat.)

•  Add water to the meat (and optional vegetables) and simmer until just browned, do not over cook.
•  Allow to cool to room temperature.
•  Add U-Stew powder and mix throughly.
•  Divide into serving sizes based on the weight of your dog.

•  Freeze the finished product for storage. Thaw as needed.
•  Thaw frozen dog food by warming to room temperature in a warm water before serving and remove un-eaten food within 30 minutes to be refrigerated. Do not leave the food out at room temperature.
•  Avoid microwaving on a regular basis.
•  The dog food food will keep fresh for 24 hours once thawed and refrigerated.
