Saw these at the supermarket and decided to try them out, since the cats have already had freeze-dried beef tongue!
Huge and cheap: 2 for only $3.28!
Mountain of meat and topside of tongue.
Since tongues are huge and cheap, you might be tempted to feed more…but that’s not wise, because:
FATS!
Here is a nutritional chart from CalorieCount.com:
1 PIECE WHOLE
- 625 calories
- 386 calories from fat
- 42 grams of fat
- 338mg cholesterol
- 55.8g of protein
Ration, ration and ration!
Cut whatever fat you can easily do so off, and slice lengthwise to reveal this 🙂
Cubes of tongue. The cats weren’t interested in either blanched or raw, so…
I tried pan-frying them lightly without any oil.
To show you how oily the cubes are, here’s a video of them sizzling deliciously in their own fat:
The kitties LOVED the pan-fried version!
Mmm smells like Korean BBQ!
Here are some games you can play with your kitty/puppy with the cubes if you aren’t going to feed it as part of a meal:
Cup hide-n-seek:
You’ll need:
- A willing Kitty/puppy
- 2 cups/bowls (the weight will determine how difficult the game is and you can increase the number of cups as you go along)
Paper Parcels:
For this, please watch your pet well to ensure it doesn’t eat any paper by mistake!
Max loved it and couldn’t get enough of the game–or is it because of the snack? 😛 Either way, he kept looking for more! It’s a good, cheap way to keep kitty and puppy stimulated ! Have fun and keep experimenting ! 🙂
