[TRE PET BLOG POST]
It’s raining cats and dogs today, and the cats (and Jackie) hate thunderstorms.
Guess where Faith’s hiding? This is her FAVOURITE hiding spot for anything scary, but especially thunderstorms.

This is our piano–and I must say–gorgeous piano cover. hehe!
(Well for those of you who are interested I bought it at $168 at Thompson Plaza’s Lovely DeArt)
No, the cats do not scratch it/our piano! In fact our cats do not (mostly) scratch anywhere except their scratching post.
Once the storms begin, Faith will head there like a well-trained messenger pigeon going home.
Jackie heads for under Daddy Dearest’s bed, which is unfortunately too narrow for my dad to reach but can accomodate a 22 kg frightened dog just fine. And he won’t come out till the rain stops!
‘If I see no evil, will I be safe??’
She sat like this for about a couple of minutes. haha! Poor darling.
After a while I returned to peek under the piano cover…

Faith wants some love.
We’ve never adopted mollycoddling the cats when they’re afraid (such as when strangers come into the house) because animals respond differently from humans. Over-mollycoddling pets may actually encourage a similar fearful response to the same situation over time.
We’ve found that this approach works well for the cats, especially when it comes to thunderstorms and strangers and anything new. š They like being near us during scary situations (or in the case of Faith, under the piano covers), but if we aren’t around, they aren’t overly anxious and can deal with it instead of shredding the house to bits.
How do your pets take to thunderstorms?? How do you deal with them? Do share with us! š
